This mosaic is based on a series of wildlife images found in ancient Tzippori, a major city when nearby Nazareth was still a small village. Though the city is not mentioned in the Scriptures, tradition suggests that Mary's family was from Tzippori, whose name means "my bird" in Hebrew.
