Not Like Sheep to the Slaughter Video or DVD
Contrary to common misconceptions, the 6 million Jews
exterminated by the Nazis did not all march silently to
their deaths. Though the story of the Warsaw Ghetto
Uprising is relatively well-known, those led by the same
Jewish Fighting Organization in Bialystok, Cracow, and
the Czestochowa region are largely unheard of.
"Not Like Sheep to the Slaughter" examines the history
of the Nazis in Poland, recreating for the viewer the
atmosphere of brutal violence and oppression through
extensive documentation of racist print, film, and radio
propaganda, and through personal letters, period
footage, and the newspaper articles and headlines of the
day. Arriving at August 1943, when the Jews were
ordered expelled from the Bialystok ghetto, we pick up
the tracks of Mordechai Tennenbaum, leader of the
uprising and chronicler of the events that occurred there.
In his correspondence, diary entries, and through
interviews with eyewit- nesses and survivors of the
rebellion, "Not Like Sheep to the Slaughter" provides
intimate familiarity with the Jewish freedom fighters and
their communities, their plans and preparations, their
hopes... and their ultimate sacrifice.
