Camel (Front and Back)
And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin
about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey.  Mark 1:6
Camels, being the primary means of transportation amongst the
ancient peoples of the Middle East, are as oft mentioned in the
Bible as the varieties of sacrificial animals. They were beasts of
burden that carried goods and riders, drew chariots, and
frequently were richly adorned as an indication of the wealth of
their master. Camels were amongst the signs of the Lord's
blessing upon the patriarchs, who through His goodness
amassed large herds and flocks of all sorts of animals. And it
would seem that their hair apparently came in pretty handy as
well...

These days one often asks an Israeli abroad if he rides a camel
back home. In fact, most Israelis ride the bus, the camel having
been restricted to the zoo and to a few ethnic minority groups
that roam the deserts. The Bedouin (Arab nomads who continue
to live much like the patriarchs did in the southern regions of
Israel) are still often seen with their tents and camels, and it's
mostly for their sake that even modern desert roads are dotted
with "Camel Crossing!" signs. Our Camel T-Shirt features not
only a view of this fuzzy beast's anterior, but also on the reverse
a print of his (ahem) "less flattering" posterior.
