The Jerusalem archaeological park
|
This guide book describes the archeological remains in the area defined in the north by the south wall of the temple mount, in the east by the slope of the Mount of Olives and by the Kidron valley, and in the west and the south by the valley of Hinnon.
|
This area has been set aside as an
archeological park and open museum, where
visitors will be able to follow in history’s
footsteps.
The large park extends over on of the few
parts of ancient Jerusalem which have not
been built up in the past few centuries.
Archeologists have found here the earliest
evidence of human occupation in Jerusalem-
remains of the first settlement established some
5,000 years ago above the Gihon spring. Not
far from the spring, on the slopes of the spur
known as the city of David, the earliest city
walls have been discovered dating to the early
second millennium BCE.
Through vivid pictures, paintings and blue
prints and detailed explanations, this guide
book explores the magic of ancient Jerusalem.
Through structures, items found and human
remains discovered, major historic events for
Jewish, Islamic and Christians are portrayed
and the vastness of the history of holy
Jerusalem is magnified.
