| A guide to antiquity sites in Tiberia |

This guide will introduce the visitor to
Tiberias, enable him to locate these sites and
recreate in his mind’s eye the appearance of
the city-it’s buildings, streets and institutions
throughout its long history.
This guide surveys the history of Tiberias and its
major events. The main portion of the guide
consists of detailed pictures and descriptions of 17
sites in Tiberias and it’s suburb, Hammat Tiberias.
The guide was written in the summer of 1991, when
the water-level of the sea of Galilee was extremely
low. It is based on finds from the numerous salvage
excavations which have been conducted in Tiberias.
These excavations were resumed in the city,
resulting in discoveries such as the theater at the
foot of Mt. Berenice, as well as the church and
fortress on its summit.
